verniero commission initiatives
The Verniero Commission’s initiatives focus on health education and disability rights, providing evidence-based information that supports informed decision-making and public awareness.

general health education & evidence-based guidance
The Health Information Initiative delivers clear, science-based health education for the public. We translate complex medical research into plain language without oversimplifying the facts. As a result, readers can better understand diagnoses, treatments, and emerging research while avoiding misinformation. Learn more through our health information initiative.
MPN awareness
Myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN) are rare blood cancers that are often misunderstood and under-explained. Through the MPN Cancer Initiative, we provide clear, evidence-based information to help patients, caregivers, and families better understand these conditions. We explain diagnosis, disease progression, treatment options, and emerging research in plain language. In addition, we address quality-of-life issues, long-term monitoring, and the real-world challenges patients face. Our goal is to empower individuals with accurate information while supporting informed conversations with healthcare providers.

Mutations in certain genes, are speculated to be a major cause of what are known as Philadelphia chromosome–negative MPNs, or “classical” MPNs. Even those who do not possess these mutations may have MPNs.
disability rights
Disability rights are civil rights. Therefore, our initiatives address accessibility, accommodations, and equal participation in healthcare and public life. We highlight both visible and invisible disabilities and promote evidence-based policy solutions. Through education and advocacy, we work to remove barriers that limit independence and dignity. Our founder, being disabled himself, is proud to serve at the state level on both the SILC and SRC boards of Georgia.

elderly abuse and exploitation
Elderly abuse and exploitation are serious public health and civil rights issues. This initiative focuses on education, prevention, and awareness of financial, physical, emotional, and medical abuse affecting older adults. We explain common warning signs, risk factors, and systemic failures that allow abuse to occur. Moreover, we highlight the intersection between aging, disability, and dependency, which can increase vulnerability. By providing clear, accessible resources, we aim to help families, caregivers, and communities recognize abuse early and take appropriate action.
“Lets challenge and push our Congressmen, Representatives and Senators to create legislation to protect this vulnerable parts of our population. Systemic change for better Elder Protection and proper Polycythemia Vera Cancer Awareness is needed, our elected officials are the ones who should support us all.”- Col. Samuel Verniero
